The first offering from Baque Luar on Plum Cuts is their wonderfully percussive piece Arranjo.

Arranjo is a piece celebrating the rhythmic varieties of the northeastern Brazilian sound world of Maracatu de Baque Virado, moving through traditional variations of Marcação, Luanda and Arrasto, exploring the explosive energy of the Virado and ending up in a dance with the rootsy ancestor of funk, Mangue-best! It's a real journey into the power, variety and evolution of the Maracatu, one of the oldest Afro-Brazilian musical manifestations in existence

We're releasing it as a Bandcamp exclusive this week in anticipation of the 12" release next week alongside lead single Brilha. It will be online as a 'pay what you like' download with all proceeds from this being donated towards Maracatu Nação Leão Coroado, the oldest continuously active Maracatu nation in the world, to support their European tour in September.

Recorded at Rimshot Studios by Plum Cuts' own Oli Barton-Wood, and mixed by André Magalhães in Brazil, we think it's a real treat for the ears and we hope you can dance along!

All roads lead to the Baque Luar's show next Friday 25th at The Albany in Deptford where you will be able to pick up one of the very limited physical copies of the single, lovingly decorated by the band. More info on that very soon
